Soil Moisture (Wired Probe) Sensor with Controller, Adjustable Sensitivity

This is a ready-to-use Soil moisture sensor with a long wired probe (corrosion-resistant) and controller, generally used to measure the amount of moisture present in the soil. The soil moisture sensor is a small and simple module that can be used with Arduino (or any other microcontroller) with both analog and digital output.

Working of Soil Moisture Sensor Module

Soil Moisture Sensor can measure soil moisture for plants. The soil moisture sensor consists of two probes that allow the current to pass through the soil and then obtain resistance values to measure soil moisture content. It can be used to decide if the plants in a garden need watering. You can also use soil moisture sensors in gardens to automate watering plants. When there is water, the soil will conduct more electricity, which means that there will be less resistance. Dry soil conducts electricity poorly, so when there is less water, then the soil will conduct less electricity, which means that there will be more resistance. It can be used very easily by just inserting the sensor into the soil and reading the output using ADC. Digital Output can be obtained by the signal fed into the LM393 Comparator to produce a Digital Output.

 

  • The moisture sensor uses the two probes to pass current through the soil.
  • It reads the resistance to get the moisture level readings.
  • Digital Output produced by LM393 Comparator.
