This is a ready-to-use Soil moisture sensor, generally used to measure the amount of moisture present in the soil. The soil moisture sensor is a small and simple module that can be used with Arduino (or any other microcontroller) with voltage output.

Working of Soil Moisture Sensor

Soil Moisture Sensor can measure soil moisture for plants. The soil moisture sensor consists of two probes that allow the current to pass through the soil and then obtain resistance values to measure soil moisture content. It can be used to decide if the plants in a garden need watering. You can also use soil moisture sensors in gardens to automate watering plants. It can be used very easily by just inserting the sensor into the soil and reading the output using ADC.

 

  • The moisture sensor uses the two probes to pass current through the soil.
  • It reads the resistance to get the moisture level readings.
  • 0 to 300 ~ dry soil; 300 to 700 ~ humid soil; 700 to 950 ~ water (Please note that this value could be inverted).
  • For 3.3V operating votlage, 0 to 2.3V Output Voltage (2.3V when the sensor is completely immersed in water).
  • For 5V operating voltage, 0 to 3.7V Output Voltage (3.7V when the sensor is completely immersed in water).
